Openoffice.org 1.0.x is a stable, robust office suite that reads Microsoft Office(TM) files, writes to MS Office and does a lot more than that. Underneath its clean look and familiar interface (you do not need to learn much new), it uses an internationally standardized form of XML, which allows it to work beautifully with many modern systems–painlessly. OpenOffice.org is free. You do not have to pay for it.
OpenOffice.org 1.1beta is our advanced version that is not quite as stable but which includes many exciting new features. If you want an application for daily use, download OpenOffice.org 1.0.3.1; if you want an application that leaps over all the competition (with some hyperbole) then download OpenOffice.org 1.1beta. OpenOffice.org 1.0.3.1 has been localized (translated) into many languages. Please check to see if there is a Native-Lang project for your language.
OpenOffice.org includes the key desktop applications, such as a word processor (writer), spreadsheet (calc), presentation manager (impress), and drawing program (draw); open-source databases can be easily integrated. Available in 25 languages with more being constantly added by the community. OpenOffice.org runs stably and natively on Solaris, Linux (including PPC Linux), Windows, and Mac OSX (X11). Additional ports, such as for FreeBSD, and IRIX are in various stages of completion.
