CREATIVE LABS TOLD told us before the holidays that it will have the one and only exclusive for Europe, at least to start with, but we are starting to get more information from other firms who say it’s not so.
See for example, the Club-3D confirmation of its GeForce FX board today.
We were advised by one of the top four manufacturers of Nvidia’s cards that it’s very unlikely that Creative will be exclusive and here’s why.
He believes, and we agree, that if this is true, and if it’s anything to do with Nvidia, this type of move could cause many partners to feel a little “upset”.
Nvidia has four major OEM partner companies in Taiwan, MSI, Asus, Leadtek and Gainward and all these companies would be pretty upset by this kind of agreement.
One of the facts is that MSI actually builds cards for Creative and it would be quite interesting to see only Creative cards on European market as MSI is actually manufacturing them.
MSI should also have contracts with major OEM PC builders such as Dell and will need to satisfy these important guys as well.
It seems other manufacturers are already making waves.
We reckon that MSI, Leadtek and Gainward will get Japan and the rest of Asia for starters and later on everyone will be able to sell these cards off any limits. We reckon that this will happen sometimes in March or even April.
We learned from one of the top four partners that it assumes all will be equal with the samples as usual…
This Creative exclusive deal could actually result in a Geforce FX manufacturing “rebellion” |
