Development Team PC-BSD development team and the company iXsystems, the owner of the project PC-BSD, announced the release of PC-BSD 9.0, a new version of the distribution based on FreeBSD and oriented for use on home computers and workstations.

Release of PC-BSD 9.0 is based on the code base FreeBSD 9.0-Release, this is the first release of PC-BSD, giving the user a choice of desktop environments (KDE 4.7.3, GNOME 2.32.2, Lxde 0.5.5, Xfce 4.8) and window managers. One of the novelties in the PC-BSD 9.0 has PBI Manager, a set of command line tools for package management format PBI (Push Button Installer); improved system PBI allows sharing of libraries, updating only the changed binary data packets, supports digital signatures and creating their own repositories .

New control panel offers a single interface configuration for various window managers and desktop environments, improved network configuration utility, supports quick configuration Wi-Fi. Another new tool, Life-Preserver-based rsync, easy to create backups of user data. Supports installation of PC-BSD on BootCamp partition systems, Mac OS X. Available images for VMWare and VirtualBox with integrated tools for guests. Supports UFS logging is implemented without the need for further adjustments. Implemented graphics mode to select a boot option.
