OpendTect is an open source seismic interpretation software system for processing, visualizing and interpreting multi-volume seismic data, and for fast-track development of innovative interpretation tools.Features

Horizon tracker
The new horizon tracker features various modes:

* In auto-track mode the surface grows automatically within a user specified tracking area. The tracker can be controlled by amplitude only, by a step-wise amplitude difference and by similarity (cross-correlation). The stepwise tracker first tracks the areas that have a minimal amplitude difference with the picked seeds and allows for a greater difference in subsequent steps. This results in a much better horizon which requires less editing.
* In line tracking mode the user makes an interpretation on inlines and crosslines. On the elements seeds are made and in between seeds an event is tracked or interpolated.
* The tracking software supports various features for editing tracked surfaces. Areas can be removed from the surface and re-tracked after picking new seed points, or changing tracking parameters. Holes in the data can be filled automatically with various interpolation algorithm.

Visualizing 2D and 3D seismic data
OpendTect's 3D viewer supports visualization of seismic sections (inlines, crosslines, time-slices), random lines, 2D lines, horizons, faults, wells (tracks, markers, stratigraphy, logs), objects, polygons and picks, volume rendering, and pre-stack gathers. Seismic data can als-- be displayed in separate 2D viewers. Several commercial plugins offer additional visualization capabilities & viewers (e.g. the HorizonCube allows sliding through a dense set of horizons, The Well Correlation Panel (v4.2) supports a dedicated 2D viewer, as does Spectral Bluing and Colored Inversion (v4.2)).

The main idea behind the 3D interface is that seismic interpreters must be able t-- quickly scan through multiple volumes of data and combine information t-- get the optimal view of any geological feature of interest. For this reason, data processing and visualization are rigorously integrated in the system.

Visualization elements can be moved freely through data space t-- interactively analyse data from stored volumes, or data calculated on-the-fly. Visualization elements include slices (inlines, crosslines, timeslices), horizons, random lines and cubes. For better interpretation of the data and analysis results, OpendTect supports volume rendering and stere-- viewing.

* Match Delta -- Attribute that extracts time shifts between similar events in different seismic volumes
* Mathematics -- Attribute that returns the result of a user-defined mathematical expression
* Position -- Attribute that returns any attribute calculated at the location where another attribute has its minimum, maximum or median within a small volume.
* Prestack attribute -- This attribute enables you t-- load, display, use and manage pre-stack data
* Reference -- Attribute that returns the definitions of the extraction position
* Reference shift -- Attribute that moves the extraction position in 3D space
* Scaling -- Attribute used for scaling of amplitude
* SEG-Y checklist -- SEG-Y loading checklist
* Similarity -- Attribute that returns trace-to-trace similarity properties
* Spectral decomposition -- Attribute that returns the amplitude spectrum (FFT) or waveletcoefficients (CWT)
* Velocity Fan Filter -- Attribute that returns energy with apparent velocities inside a specified Min/Max range.
