The release schedule for the upcoming Ubuntu 12.04 LTS operating system has been published on the Ubuntu wiki. The distribution will be released at the end of April 2012.

The desktop CD allows you to try Ubuntu without changing your computer at all, and at your option to install it permanently later. This type of CD is what most people will want to use. You will need at least 384MiB of RAM to install from this CD.

There are two images available, each for a different type of computer:

PC (Intel x86) desktop CD
    For almost all PCs. This includes most machines with Intel/AMD/etc type processors and almost all computers that run Microsoft Windows, as well as newer Apple Macintosh systems based on Intel processors. Choose this if you are at all unsure.
64-bit PC (AMD64) desktop CD
    Choose this to take full advantage of computers based on the AMD64 or EM64T architecture (e.g., Athlon64, Opteron, EM64T Xeon, Core 2). If you have a non-64-bit processor made by AMD, or if you need full support for 32-bit code, use the Intel x86 images instead.

The changes to the software and the Ubuntu 4.12 LTS features include:

New application:

    Its player is transferred back to the default Rhythmbox, integrated back Ubuntu One online music stores;
    LibreOffice office Toolkit updated to version 3.5.

Interface:

    Set up display "Appearance" in the System Settings now allows users to customize the interface characteristics of Unity easier;
    Bar directory "Nautilus quicklist" added the quick launch bar Unity Application Launcher;
    Additional search how fast and quick access to all menus, desktop application called the "HUD". You just press the Alt button and enter the letters or words, HUD will table the relevant section. Press Enter to execute. With open applications, HUD will provide the features of the example application type "edit" to go to the editing of image editing, type "quit" to exit the program, etc. .. Support clickpad:

Ubuntu One:

    Ubuntu One music store back to Rhythmbox;
    No proxy support, expected to be present in the Beta-2.
